Vic White

Vic White nick named the Legend and Doug Templeton battle it out on the Long Eaton Track during the 1966/7 Season. The rider in for just the 1 point is Bert Harkins.

Vic first took to the track in 1959 at Rye House and during his riding career appeared at Ipswich - Cradley Heath - Leicester - Long Eaton - Newport - Belle Vue - Reading, surprising how many riders started their riding career at the Rye House Track.

Vic rates his best achievement whilst riding his breaking of the Track Record at Leicester. The following week a World Championship Round was held at Leicester and no one managed to do a time as quick as Vic's Track Record, including double World Champion Peter Craven.

Despite the above achievement he lists his proudest moment as the time he achieved his first maximum when Winning the Hunters Trophy in 1962. That was, of course, his proudest Speedway Moment and the birth of his son, the rider Keith (Chalky) White must have rated pretty high.

Although he loved every minute of his riding career he still thinks of his worse memory as the crash he had at Leicester at the end of the 1962 season.

Vic retired as a rider in 1968 but is still very much involved with speedway as today he is the Secretary of the World Speedway Riders' Association, and devotes much time in helping to organize their many activities.
