Steve Lomas

Steve Lomas a British born rider who started his riding career at  Weymouth in 1974. At the end of his very first season in the league for Weymouth he was signed by Len Silver for Hackney. Going on to appear as a rider for Wolverhampton, Edinburgh, and Boston, riding as a guest for many others.

Steve considers his best achievements were being third in the Champions Chase, winning Best Pairs with Zenon Plech. He also rates coming runner up in the 1982 Nation League Riders Championship and still holding the current track record at Boston.

Although he did not mention it I have been told that he also took part with some success in the 1978 unofficial England v Denmark series, unofficial as far as the Danish speedway control were concerned, but still an honour to be chosen to represent your country.

When asked what made him most proud Steve replied "managing to make a living from the sport for Twelve Years" indeed that was quite an accomplishment considering Steve did not start Speedway riding until his mid 20's; most people start riding in their teens.

Steve retired from the track in 1986 but is still involved with bikes and biking sports as he now runs a motorcycle Wheelbuilding and tyre business call 'five-one wheels'. 5-1 sounds a good score to me.
