Although claiming duel citizenship, U.K. and New Zealand, Alan Clark has done most of his riding in New Zealand.

However he first rode on a track in Hanover, Germany, on the Hanomag track. Other tracks to have seen Alan's talents are  Wembley Stadium, a trial ride, and the Sydney Showground, in Australia. There are also a large number in New Zealand including Western Springs, Auckland - Hamilton - Rotorua - Napier - Gisborne - Palmerston North and Christchurch.  

Whilst riding both solo and sidecar in New Zealand Alan twice became the N. Z. Sidecar Champion in 1966 and again in 1971, some achievement managing that 5 years apart, he must have kept himself in good race condition.

He was also Auckland Sidecar Champion three times, and with his partner Grant Jones performing his acrobatics from the sidecar platform he spent the mid to late 1960's breaking track records and winning championships.

His proudest moment occurred during the period, that was winning the New Zealand, North Island and Auckland Sidecar Championships all within one wonderfully successful season, the season of 1966. Winning the triple championship has never been repeated so to date Alan’s record still stands after 40 years.

By contrast Alan's worst memory is crashing in 1959 at the New Zealand Solo Championship when riding against Bruce Abernethy. The meeting was won by Barry Briggs with 2nd being Ivan Mauger.

Alan Clark retired from riding in 1972 but is still involved with speedway as a journalist and photographer and is the Wimbledon Track Photographer. Alan is also a valued member of the World Speedway Riders Association.
