77th Anniversary of the

First Speedway Meeting Held in the UK

at High Beech

Two special things about this years get together of the speedway family, firstly it fell on the exact day of the 77th anniversary and another first was the number of participants who have offered to donate to the Speedway Museum Building Fund.

Above is the front of the Kings Oak Hotel behind which is the site of the original track on which the first meeting took place. The photo was taken late in the afternoon and as you can see the outside stalls are being packed up for another year.

So much memorabilia was on offer both for sale and to be viewed that some of the hotels outdoor summer furniture was pressed into service to house some of the examples. Some of the more eagle eyed amongst you will be able to discern samples of some of the many publications available to the supporters of yesteryear. Shown here are Speedway Echo, Speedway News, Speedway Gazette, Speedway Star, Speedway Pix, Speedway Argus, The Broadsider, Speedway Reporter and the Speedway Post, along with Programmes and photographs of the time.

Loads of bikes to look at, admire, lust after, and chat about,
