It
is pleasing also to record that in none of those countries where this
young countryman of ours carried off premier honours in international
events, taken part in by picked riders from Denmark, Germany, France,
Austria, Australia, etc., were feelings of jealousy or animosity
aroused. On the contrary, the attentions he received on the occasion of
some of his most notable successes against native competitors rivalled
those bestowed on a Charlie Chaplin or a Mary Pickford. Amongst
the most noteworthy successes gained by this young Scottich rider – of
which he as brought back concrete evidence in the shape of interesting
trophies and innumerable press notices and photographs, in diverse
languages – are the winning of international contests in Breslau,
Oberhattsen, Hamborn in Germany; Mislowitz, Poland; Zagreb, Yugo-Slavia;
Nystedt, Denmark; etc., besides the creation of new records at various
tracks, viz., to instance one in Checko-Slavakia, where he averaged 105
miles per hour on a particularly large track. |
