"Speedway gets a good
coverage on television from Sky, but did you see the WSRA getting a
"plug" (KLG? Champion?) on BBC recently?
Our intrepid Association Secretary, Vic White, took his life in his
hands and appeared on Anne Robinson's, "The Weakest Link" Quiz
Show and did very well indeed, reaching the "Match Race Final"
where he lost to a Glasgow lassie.
'The Weakest Link', which is an ideal title for a show featuring a
Speedway rider as we all know how painful it can be when the weakest
link on your old pre-chainguard primary chain breaks and whips you
across the legs, or the rear chain takes a bite out of your backside, is
one of the most popular BBC shows under the formidable Anne Robinson.
Somehow, Speedway must have seemed easier to Vic compared to facing that
lady!
I guess that Vic must be used to being under the spotlight and he
certainly lived up to his "Maximum Man" email address,
--------- legend3333@btinternet.com
--------- a true "Legend in his Own Lunchtime."
Vic even managed to get a good plug in for Speedway as he came down from
his podium to demonstrate the art of sliding into a corner for the
puzzled Ms Robinson, and he looked faster and smoother than he ever did
in his racing days at Long Eaton! Unfortunately,
"Trapper", as he was known in his racing days, slipped up on a
question about The Trossachs in Scotland, so I guess I will have to give
him a Scottish Guide Book to brush up on places North of The Border.
All was not lost and Vic finished as runner -up (again!) and got some
extra publicity for Speedway along the way. He enjoyed his time in the
spotlight and was last seen leaving the BBC Studios singing the title
song from "The Graduate",........."Here's To You, Mrs.
Robinson"!
