July 2006
Just
come across this site during the last week and I hope you can help me
trace Val (Wal) Morton and or his family. Back in the fifties on his
visits to Sydney he spent a great deal of his time with our family. The
last time I was in contact with him and his wife Ruth was when I visited
the UK in the early sixties. They had a son Wayne who was two years old
at that time. I was a young man in my early twenties.
Forty
years on I now have a son living in Manchester who is marring a
English girl in October. My wife and I will be visiting Manchester for a
month and it would be great if I could catch up with the family.
Trust
you can help me.

He

My Great
Uncle was Nobby Key and I am trying to get hold of some images of him
for my father.
I spoke with
Vic White regarding this and he kindly suggested that I email you as you
look after the WSRA website. Would it be possible to ask your WSRA
members / readers whether they might have images of Nobby that I might
use?
Your help in
this matter is greatly appreciated.
Best wishes

November 2005 - West Australian Riders
Hi,
I’m
Tony Webb associate vets member from Western Australia. I am
compiling a database of West Australians who rode in England. In
particular I am searching for teams, dates and info on Wally Higgs,
Rusty Wainwright, George McPherson, Les Saville and Tich Maddern [there
was a Bill and Jack Maddern may have been all the same person as some
riders rode under different first names in England] I believe
Wally and George rode for Yarmouth could have been in Alf Weedons time
as promoter.
A fantastic
site would like to see more profiles so come on boys tell all!
Kind
regards Tony Webb [Shaleways]

24th August 2005 -
Scott Mickie
I have been trying to find
historical information on my late father's speedway career back in the
late 1920's and early 1930's. I am attaching a few photos and
newspaper articles I have found so far. Sadly he passed away in
Grande Cache, Alberta, Canada in October 1991 at age 82.
We
know he was on the Scottish team and was listed as a Rochdale rider.
He later was a team rider and team mechanic for Jawa motorcycles and rode
extensively in Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and other
countries in that area of Europe before the war. His full name was
Lawrence Cumberland Michie but he was known as "Scot Michie",
"Scott Michie", "Scottie Michie" and I have even seen
it as "Scott Mickie" - so many different versions. He
seemed to take on the name Scot as he was originally from Scotland and was
on the Scottish Team.
One
of the photos has a notation Hamburg Speedway 14/5/1931 and another says
Breslau 22/5 but the year is missing. If anyone can find any more
information for me I would be most grateful. My sister-in-law, Diane
Michie who lives in England is making a trip to the Rochdale Observer
(newspaper) to see if she can track down any articles. It seems that
speedway (dirt-track as my father always referred to it) was very popular
in those early days.

For Ria Papworth.
If
you type in search, Harringay Speedway and New Cross Speedway, you
will get a lot of info:
Split Waterman does not have a web site of his own or an e- mail
address. He lives in Spain, is in good health and
was Guest Of Honour at the Veterans Dinner in 2003. He will be
at the Amigos lunch in Alicante in November.
